Naples' Secrets

Insider Tips

  • Naples uses Euros as a currency although most places take credit card.
  • I would not suggest renting a car, because the streets are narroow and it's difficult to drive on cobblestone.
  • The bars in Naples are a ton of fun but there aren't any dance bars or clubs that we found.
  • I would not go out alone at night, go out in groups.
  • Try not to buy from street vendors because it's not legal everywhere.

Top Things to Do

1. Castel Nuovo

A REAL LIFE CASTLE! You can live out your princess dreams at this beautiful castle on the water. The surrounding area is perfect for a relaxing day, boating, eating and exploring. During the day you’re able to visit the inside of the castle, and in the evening you’ll find fun outdoor vendors.

2. Beach Front

Who can say no to a beach side dinner? I was pleasantly surprised to find the most quaint outdoor restaurants along the water. It's the perfect location to spend your evening, but during the day the beaches are open if you want to swim in the water. Along the water you'll also see vendors which you can shop souvenirs. This beachfront area is also right next to the Castel Nuovo above.

3. Rent a bike

It might sound touristy, but it was one of the most fun adventures we had while in Italy. Fox rental is across from the water and you can rent 4 person bikes to cruise along the water. You will pass a few stands to grab food and take to the beachfront.

When in Naples...Take a MINI TRIP!

Positano

First, you have to know Positano is quite a detour, BUT it’s the absolute most beautiful place I've visited in my entire life. My husband and I went to take our engagement photos and fell in love. You can get there by boat or car but the drive up is extremely expensive and dangerous because the ride into Positano is extremely narrow and up a hill. Once you arrive, hotels are also expensive but it’s absolutely worth it. It’s a small area, but you can find restaurants, shopping, beach and even a few bars. If I could choose one place in Europe to visit, I would choose Positano.

Quick Tip:

The easiest way to get to the Amalfi Coast which is Positano, Sorrento, Capri and more is to take a day boat trip. You can also bring your luggage and stay overnight but you have to make sure you book your return trip.

Positano

Positano is the perfect place to take pictures. My husband and I took our engagement photos there, but it’s perfect for any occasion. I would also recommend early morning or late afternoon photos when the sun is down.

Water Front

The beaches near Naples are a little different than most I’ve seen, which makes it a great place to take pictures.

Castel Nuovo

You can’t beat taking pictures in front of an actual castle! I would visit in the evening when there are less people and the sun isn’t as bright allowing for better pictures.

Top Dining & Drinks

Pasta

You don’t know pasta until you’ve visited Italy. No matter the type of pasta you order, the noodles melt in your mouth and the sauce is fresh.

Pizza

I would argue that Naples has the best pizza in the world. If you do nothing in Naples, at least grab a slice of pizza.
