Packing tips for traveling abroad.
Glamping's Secrets
Insider Tips
- To find a camping packing list you can visit the second tab of this downloadable checklist
- To book a Yurt in Folsom like in the pictures below, reach out to Creative Excursions
- When you book a yurt, you won’t have to bring anything for sleeping or a tent
- If you really want to bring very little, you can leave the campsite and purchase all of your meals at fast food places nearby
- If you want to go swimming, make sure to bring your floaties, a few towels or blankets to sit on the sand and a portable cooler to bring your drinks and snacks
The Tent Situation
A yurt is the best form of Glamping! It’s a premade thick tent set up, typically with beds already made inside and sometimes other small amenities like rugs, a fan and games. This is obviously not “real” camping but super fun if you just want to spend the weekend outdoors but not deal with the extra work of setting up tents and beds. It’s more difficult to find campsites that offer Yurts but a few that we found are below (I’ve only visited Folsom):
Top 3 Things to Do
Beach at the Lake
The Folsom lake is almost like a beach, with sand and a dedicated swimming area. If you arrive early enough you can set up next to the grassy area with grills and a shaded area. If you want to relax near the water, make sure to bring a beach umbrella for the shade. We packed up ingredients to make sandwiches, and brought a cooler full of beers and water for the day. The water is warm, warm, warm so you can swim all day!
Play Games in the Yurts
If you’ve never been in a yurt, they are extremely comfy! The company we rented from offered games but you can always bring your own and spend some time in these fun tents. It feels like when you’re a kid, building a little tent for yourself in the living room, pretending it’s a house… but instead it’s real!
Evening Float
The evenings in Folsom are magical. The sunset is beautiful and the water is still warm enough to swim in the evenings. Bring your floaties, drinks and a few snacks to spend your evening in the freshwater. It’s also helpful to bring water shoes if you have them since it’s a bit more difficult to see what you’re stepping on in the water.
